Portfolio
For years I’ve replicated antique oil, milk and watering cans, among other forms, and Raku-fired them to resemble rusty tin. The intent of the process is to unify form and surface to create an illusion of reality. This "Aspen Miners" theme represents a time in the American West; the late 1800’s silver mining and ranching days.
Rusty found-objects such as parts from old tire chains, square nails and weathered bailing wire are sometimes incorporated on the pots, often named after Aspen area mines, landmarks and historic members of the community.
My work also includes saggar, functional stoneware, and Spirit Urns. Recently I have ventured into clay sculpture, which will continue to be a significant part of my work.
